Jonathan Chriqui - Yondan (4th dan)
Graded to his shodan
by Sosai Mas Oyama in 1993, Jonathan brings an extensive
training and teaching history along to North Bondi dojo.
He has trained with the best of the best, having attended
seminars and gasshukus by Kancho Matsui, Shihan Bobby Lowe,
Shihan Hasegawa, and Shihan Uytenbogaardt; to name a few.
Jonathan graded to his sandan in 2003 and has been operating
dojos throughout Sydney for 15 years. He is a well respected

Chantelle Petith - Nidan (2nd dan)
Chantelle got hooked on martial arts by
watching cheesy kick-boxing movies, and signed up with Shihan
Nic Cujic’s dojo where she trained with Sempai Ian
Lisle, assisting him with classes for six years. An excellent
technician with a relaxed style, Chantelle’s preference
is for kata and we’re currently in the process of
blackmailing her into competing in upcoming tournaments.
She achieved her nidan grade in 2003, and has recently moved
to the Eastern suburbs to continue her art and teaching.
You can sample Chantelle’s creative mind at www.chantellepetith.com.au

Anthony Tockar - Nidan (2nd dan)
Anthony
has been practicing Kyokushin karate for 16 years, since
the age of 5. As a child he performed well in national and
provincial tournaments, coming 2nd in South Africa for kumite
in 1996. In 2006 he graded for his Nidan (2nd degree black
belt). Anthony was a member of the 2005 Australian Maccabi
team to go to the 17th Maccabiah Games and won a bronze
medal in the team kumite event as well as a bronze for heavyweight
kumite. He also represented Australia in the first Maccabi
International Games held in Sydney in July 2006, and won
a bronze medal in the heavyweight kumite division. Sempai
Anthony reached the semi-finals in the Australian National
Tournament in Brisbane in 2008 and kicked his way to the
quarter-finals in the Tri-Nations Tournament in South Africa
last year with his impressive agility, super-powerful legs
and dangerous knees. Sempai Athony trains at North Bondi
dojo.

Graham Levy - Nidan (2nd
dan)
With spirit to match
his impressive height and physical stature, Graham is the
dojo's best dressed member. Being involved in the Maccabi
movement from the outset, Graham was instrumental in setting
up the Maccabi Karate Guild, and managed the karate team
at the Maccabiah in 2005. He has also won gold in the Master’s
kumite division for both Maccabi and All-styles karate over
the past few years. He is a martial arts fanatic and has
undeniably the most comprehensive DVD, resource book and

John Barker - Nidan (2nd dan)
After beginning his karate journey in 1996
with Sensei Lyle in Shukokai, John began training Kyokushin
and found that it suited him perfectly. John took his nidan
(2nd dan) test in March 2009 and was awarded his grade in
December. One of his most potent Kyokushin memories is icy
outdoor training at Mitsumine yama (mountain) at 6am with
snow on the roofs, and being warmed by the sound of 300
kiai’s echoing through the valley. John believes that
Kyokushin is a personal journey and holds that anyone who
perseveres with training and harnesses their passion to
guide others is worth admiring. “The most memorable
instructors are those that you see teach from their hearts”

Sarah
Lappin - Nidan (2nd dan)
Unable to take her martial arts pick, Sarah
chose everything available to her, and holds black belts
in Kyokushin, Tae Kwon Do, Yagyu Shingan Ryu, Aikido, and
Mushinjuku karate. She competed at All Japan level four
times and was two-time Northern Japan Kata champion; her
area of interest being kata bunkai (application). Sarah
considers herself a professional martial arts student, or
martial arts "bum" (quoted). Legend has it Sarah
was born in full dogi; she has just returned to Australia
after a year in Japan and a two month walking pilgrimage
in Shikoku. Welcome back Sarah!
